The theoretical and practical tools guiding my work
Hypnosis and psychotherapy
The Core Hypnosis I practise draws upon the work of Milton Erickson (the man most responsible for transforming hypnotherapy from the old authoritarian approach to a client-centred approach), Stephen Gilligan who has pioneered self-relations work, Eugene Gendlin who developed Focusing, NLP, and some aspects of cognitive therapy.
Flower Essences
I am also a Flower Essence practitioner and find that flower essences can sometimes greatly assist the process of change, especially when things are really stuck. Flower essences (the most famous of which are the Bach Flower Remedies, especially Rescue® Remedy) are dilute infusions of plants (typically the flowers), which, for reasons still unclear, bring about energetic shifts in our feelings and attitudes. Flower essences are wholly safe and non-habit forming. I use the traditional Bach Flower Essences made by Healing Herbs (see http://www.healingherbs.co.uk/) along with some of the newer ranges (for further information about flower essences see http://bfvea.com). While the precise manner in which essences work is still unknown, several research projects have shown that they are effective and more than simply a placebo. Professor Michael Hyland has published several studies that show their effectiveness (see for example the press release at http://www.plymouth.ac.uk/pages/view.asp?page=20014).
